Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is organizing a seminar on third generation (3G) mobile phone technology on June 10.
Minister In-charge for IT Sardar Mohammad Latif Khan Khosa will be the chief guest, while IT Secretary Naguib Ullah Malik will be the guest of honour. PTA Chairman Dr Mohammed Yaseen will chair the panel discussion.
The seminar will highlight various aspects of 3G mobile broadband services and 3G spectrum auctions in Pakistan, the statement said. Local and international experts will also deliver presentations on 3G mobile broadband services during the seminar. The objective of the event is to deliberate upon the regulatory, policy and technical challenges in connecting Pakistan through 3G mobile broadband and to get recommendations from the stakeholders.
3G mobile broadband is an important step in modernization of mobile telephone system. With the launch of 3G, in future, Pakistani cell phone subscribers will be able to transmit and receive high-speed data through their mobile phones, it said.
Since 3G networks can act as segue to proliferation of broadband in Pakistan and to facilitate the goal, the government, besides looking at the financial aspects, would be interested to make 3G spectrum licensing an attractive investment opportunity for the cellular mobile operators.
Pakistan’s 3G market has a great potential and is likely to attract even higher-than-anticipated investment during the 3G auctions, it said.A number of countries such as South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, France, Belgium, Japan, Switzerland, Norway, Sweden, Spain and Denmark have successfully introduced 3G services for their consumers and India has recently auctioned 3G spectrum.
