Samsung Continues to Distribute Relief Goods

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd is a proactive and caring company operating in Pakistan.
Recently a team from Samsung visited Muzaffargarh, which is among the areas facing the worst flood disasters in Pakistan.
The Managing Director Mr. Steve Han and the Senior Manager Mr. Injae Lee personally visited the displaced victims along with numerous Samsung employees to distribute more than 400 relief packs containing food and clothing items in the relief camps, besides personally interacting with the unfortunate flood victims.

The Managing Director of Samsung Pakistan, Mr. Steve Han said; “It is really painful to see such a large number of Pakistanis, facing such a massive disaster, where they have lost their homes, livelihood, properties, valuables and lives. Samsung is fully committed to help in the revival of a normal healthy life for these fellow citizens.”
During this visit the Samsung team personally ensured the fair distribution of 2 truck loads of relief goods.
The DCO of Muzaffargarh briefed them about the extent of devastation in the area.
About 2.1 million people among the total population of 3.5 million living in and around Muzaffargarh have been affected by the floods. 50% of the road Infrastructure, 80% of schools and 90% of health centers in the district are either destroyed or severely damaged.
This team from Samsung, which also included Mr. Zeshan Qureshi- Head of Mobile Phones, Ms. Rabiya Siddiqui-PR Manager and Mr. Zahid Saeed- Head of HR and Admin later visited some surrounding areas like Baseera and Shershah, where the level of devastation has been more than 75%. The recent floods have caused a severe disaster for people all over Pakistan.
Earlier, Samsung has been regularly distributing flood relief packs, each containing essential items like; Cooking Oil 2.5 kg, Flour 10 kg, Sugar 3 kg, Rice 5 kg, Gram 1 kg, Pulses 1 kg, Tea 0.5 kg, Sherbet Bottle 1.5 liter, Clothing for Man/ Woman and 1 Pack of Dry Milk.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, today announced an online campaign to promote the spirit of humanity and charity during the Holy Month of Ramadan.
A special campaign titled “Join Hands with Samsung” is being organized in association with SOS Children’s Village – a global organization that focuses on family-based, long-term care of children. This campaign will take place in Pakistan, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, KSA, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.
During the campaign, which starts on August 5 and ends on September 12, Samsung will donate SAR-1 for every newly registered user on www.samsungramadan.com. The website, which is available in Arabic, English and French, will soon be the world’s biggest virtual human chain. The money will be donated through SOS Children’s Village which will help build a community school in Kasur, which is an impoverished area near Lahore and in acute need of development. This will give the less fortunate children a have a chance for a better tomorrow. Samsung had initiated a similar campaign in 2009, and the funds from it had been utilized in making computer labs for SOS Children’s Village Dodhial.

“Magic Torch” application has topped the list as it is the Most-Downloaded” application in the list, from 1st of June till mid of July 2010. The “Magic Torch”, transforms Samsung Wave (S8500) into a flashlight with four different screens — standard light bulb, Ecological light bulb, Neon light bulb, and white screen.
Another utility app; “MyMirror” – turns the phone into a mirror using the camera device, this was featured at No. 7 on the list, while entertainment programs filled out the rest of the field. The top 10 apps for the Wave were: Need for SpeedTM Shift (games), Illusions (entertainment), SouthAfrica2010 (entertainment), Real Football 2010 (games), BatteryLife (productivity), Basketball (entertainment), Shot Gun (entertainment) and Exciting Free kick (games).
The third-most downloaded program, “Illusions” offers visually stimulating puzzles and screenshots. The application named “SouthAfrica2010” gained rapid popularity during the recent football tournament and came at No. 4. The “Free-throw practice” app Basketball was ranked No. 8, while the arcade-style shooting program “Shot-Gun” stood at No. 9. The Auto-racing program “Need for SpeedTMShift” led in the games category, coming at No. 2 on the list. The football game “Exciting Freekick” was at No. 10. Productivity app Battery Life, was ranked No. 6, which calculates remaining battery power, based on factors such as Wi-Fi use, call time, music playing and use of 2G or 3G Internet connections.

Samsung Go for Multi-Million Dollar Environment Drive

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, a global leader in electronics and digital convergence technologies, announced the first year results of its extensive PlanetFirst™ initiative, a companywide commitment to become one of the world’s most environmentally friendly companies by 2013.
It has achieved many comprehensive sustainability goals, by investing US$865 million in Green Manufacturing Sites to develop environment friendly products with low emissions and energy saving features.  Samsung’s “Green” manufacturing facilities have made 31% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, while the average energy efficiency of new Samsung products has increased by 16%.
The General Manager Samsung Pakistan, Mr. Steve Han said, “Over the past one year, Samsung has made a global, company-wide commitment for achieving and surpassing our Eco-Management 2013 goals. We are focused on understanding the impact of everything we do and becoming a true leader in sustainable business practices.”
Samsung reported a reduction of 9.6 million tons in indirect carbon emissions due to its products. A transparent third-party verification of greenhouse gas emissions for Samsung’s 39 global manufacturing sites is also being conducted.
In 4 years, 2,134 Samsung products have attained global eco-labels, making it the No.1 company in the world for environmentally friendly products. Within 2010, this Ecology initiative seeks to get “Good Eco-Product” ratings for 80 percent of Samsung product lines. To meet Global recycling standards, Samsung also collected and recycled a total of 240,000 tons of discarded electronics products across 60 countries during 2009.
Of this total investment in Ecology, about US$488 million went into developing energy-efficient technologies, environmentally friendly materials and renewable energy projects. US$377 million was put into pollutant-reducing and energy-efficient manufacturing facilities. It will invest US$5.1 billion till the year 2020, to develop its solar cell business – a renewable energy commitment.
Samsung follows elaborate systems for greenhouse gas reduction, Carbon management and Chemicals Management, which will encompass and educate 4000 Supply chain companies globally, by the year 2013. Samsung will also cut indirect greenhouse gas emissions, from all its products, by 84 million tons, over five years, by investing US$4.28 billion. Samsung brings global Cyber-Games contest to Pakistan

Samsung Electronics Company Limited engaged the Pakistani Cyber-Gaming enthusiasts in a thrilling National Final as a part of the World Cyber Games (WCG). This contest was recently held at the Expo Center-Karachi, to encourage Pakistani gamers to compete internationally. Samsung is the global sponsor of this event, and seeks to promote this trendy contest on a local level. Sindh Minister for Youth Affairs- Syed Faisal Sabzwari awarded the winners at the closing ceremony.
The participants were provided with 20 Samsung LCD Monitors to enjoy gaming in the main arena, while the winners also got LCD monitors as prizes. Another highlight of the exciting competition was a Samsung Mobile Challenge, where participants used Samsung Galaxy phones to play Asphalt 5, a thrilling cyber game. Samsung Galaxy is a gamer’s dream phone, due to its 4″ Super AMOLED display, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, along with the innovative PowerVR SGX540 GPU. It also offers the highest number of Frames-per-second, featuring upto 55.8 FPS.
The General Manager, Samsung Pakistan Mr. Steve Han said; Samsung is proud to bring the WCG to Pakistan, where almost ten thousand participants registered from all over Pakistan. After a tough competition in the preliminary rounds, 11 gamers were crowned Champions of Pakistan. On the global scale, 72 countries have registered for the WCG this year. The Grand Finale will be held in Los Angeles, USA during September, 2010.
A trendy kiosk was installed for displaying the latest models of mobile phones. A special lucky-draw awarded the winners with three Samsung “Genoa” phones and one Samsung “Wave” phone as prizes. The game “Counter Strike 1.6” was won by the Team “I-DX” from Karachi, where the Team U-5 from Lahore became runners-up. “Warcraft DOTA” was won by ‘Team CL’ of Karachi as “Team Hope” from Quetta was the runners-up. The ‘Team Rebel’ from Lahore took the winning title against “Team DD” from Islamabad in “Call of Duty 4”, whereas Farhan from Karachi won the final round in “Need for Speed-Most Wanted”.

These two stylish, easy-to-use compact digital cameras offer consumers an impressive range of advanced features all at an affordable price.
General Manager Samsung Electronics Pakistan Mr. Steve Han said, “Samsung’s ES-Series of digital cameras deliver significant value to the consumer, and that’s especially true with the new ES70 and ES65. In addition to their attractive designs, these cameras give casual photographers the ability to do more with features that are typically not found in entry-level digital cameras, including wide-angle lenses, longer zooms and automatic functionalities such as Samsung’s Smart Auto scene recognition technology.”
Both new ES-Series cameras feature a high-quality 27mm wide-angle Samsung lens with 5x optical zoom, delivering significant flexibility when compared to a traditional 3x optical zoom, 35mm lens. They posses Samsung’s advanced Digital Image Stabilization technology, which helps reduce blur and makes it easy for novice photographers to capture impressive images. The 12.2 mega-pixel ES70 offers users a 2.7-inch 230K LCD, while the 10.2 mega-pixels ES65 offers a 2.5-inch 230K LCD. Both the ES70 and ES65 even come equipped with standard definition video recording (640×480) at 30 frames per second, enabling consumers to capture important moments.
The new ES-Series cameras offer Samsung’s advanced scene recognition technology known as Smart Auto which ensures that users never have to worry about their photos being washed out, too dark or out of focus. Samsung Electronics organized an Exhibition of a wide range of Samsung products in Karachi, where visitors were provided with a first-hand experience of Samsung’s revolutionary 3D TVs.

Samsung Promotes Pakistan’s soft image with a Photo Exhibition

Samsung has sponsored a photo exhibition of a Korean photographer Yoo-Beyl-nam at the National Art Gallery Islamabad.
Inaugurated by the Ambassador of Republic of Korea, this exhibition aims to promote photography and project a more positive image of Pakistan. The event is also supported by the Embassy of Republic of Korea, National Council of Art, and the Ministry of Culture, Government of Pakistan.
Samsung aims to explore the beauty of Pakistan and promote tourism by sponsoring such positive social events. The show will continue till 25th of June, where the aesthetically inspired photography work by Yoo-Beyl-nam will be displayed.
This young photographer and traveler has assumed Pakistan as his second home and portrays the land and the people of the country beautifully. At the exhibition Mr. Yoo Beyl-nam will introduce the audience to his pictorial experiences across Pakistan.
The General Manager Samsung Pakistan Mr. Steve Han expressed his opinion by saying; “This exhibition will help in promoting the landscape, culture and warmth of the people of Pakistan. Besides that, it also reflects the ties between the people of Korea and Pakistan. The photographer Yoo-Beyl-nam came to Pakistan in the year 2000 and the trip changed his course of life from being a sculptor to a professional photographer. Yoo has also published a book, titled “InshaAllah” in 2006 in which he introduced the people and the natural scenery of Pakistan, through the photographs he captured during his trip through Pakistan. He has already held several exhibitions of his photography in Seoul, Korea. During his several television and Radio appearances, he says that he is deeply inspired by the people, places, culture and traditions of Pakistan.

Samsung & Teletech Open CS Centre in Karachi

Manager of Samsung Electronics Pakistan, Mr. Roy (Yongil) Chang inaugurated Customer Service Centre for Samsung and Teletech in Karachi. This service center will offer timely services to customers for their handsets.
Speaking to the media persons Mr. Chang said,”Keeping our focus on customers needs, we provide the best quality services and electronics products across the world. We provide innovative products for improving the lives of Pakistanis. I would like to appreciate the efforts of Teletech for extending world class services to our customers”.

Samsung Unveils the Fastest External Hard Drive-3.0

Samsung today announced the fastest external Hard-Drive yet in its STORY-Station product portfolio – the Samsung STORY™ Station 3.0 with the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface.
The top-of-line 3.5-inch external hard drive now offers 10 times faster speed compared to the previous USB 2.0 interface, making it the ideal storage solution for saving and retrieving crucial data in the blink of an eye.
The SuperSpeed USB 3.0 interface offers a maximum transfer rate of 5 gigabits per second (Gbps) compared to 480 megabits per second (Mbps) in USB 2.0.
